Show and hide the menu bar: Move the pointer to or away from the top of the screen to access the app’s menus. You’ll probably have to “push” the cursor to the very top of the screen to make the menu bar appear. Show and hide the Dock: Move the pointer to or away from the bottom or side of the screen, depending on the Dock’s location. I want other external drives to be visible, so the Finder's preferences are of no help here. Insert the Mac OS X Leopard Install DVD that you bought or that came with your computer. Launch Pacifist and select Open Package, then navigate to: /Volumes/Mac OS X Install DVD/Optional Installs/XCode Tools/XCodeTools.mpkg. The best way to hide.
Oct 20, 2019 Old Toad, Thanks for the reply, they both show up in finder, I have attached images, and they have the exact same folders. I am running Catalina 10.15 - I erased the disk and installed the OS fresh and now time machine is reporting it can't back up the system because the Macintosh -HD volume is already present and needs to be renamed even though I formatted the backup disk. 'Turn on FileVault' button enables - now click on it to encrypt your mac drive. This might take approximately two hours depending on the size of partition. Once the encryption in done restart and boot in windows. You will not see the Mac partition. Its not detectable. Mac partition can only be seen when you boot in OS X.
macOS allows you to focus on apps in Full Screen or Split View mode (though some third-party apps may not support these features). Split View allows you to automatically fill the screen on your Mac with two apps. Full Screen does exactly what it says, it fills the entire screen with the app you are working with.
Full-Screen Mode
To use an app in full-screen mode, in the top-left corner of the app window, click the green button, or press Control-Command-F.
In full screen, do any of the following:
- Show and hide the menu bar: Move the pointer to or away from the top of the screen to access the app’s menus. You’ll probably have to “push” the cursor to the very top of the screen to make the menu bar appear.
- Show and hide the Dock: Move the pointer to or away from the bottom or side of the screen, depending on the Dock’s location.
- Move between other apps in full screen: Swipe left or right on your trackpad or Magic Mouse.
To stop using the app full screen, move the pointer to the top-left corner of the screen, then click the green button, or press Control-Command-F.
Split Screen Mode
To use two apps in Split Screen mode, in the top-left corner of an app window, click and hold the green button, and choose whether to move the app to the right or left of your screen. Click the second app you want to work with, and it will appear on the opposite side.
In Split View, do any of the following:
- Resize the windows: Drag the separator bar that’s in the middle to the left or right.
- Change sides: Use a window’s toolbar to drag the window to the other side. If you don’t see a toolbar, click the window, then move the pointer to the top of the screen.
- Show and hide the menu bar: Move the pointer to or away from the top of the screen to access an app’s menus.
- Show and hide the Dock: Move the pointer to or away from the bottom or side of the screen, depending on the Dock’s location.

Mac Os X Hide Partition
Do you know that you can hide your personal data in the form of files on all Operating Systems? Some people do not even realize that there is a huge range of hidden files, and folders, in the hard drive or USB. Many of us don’t know this and we crack our heads to hide some of our personal data. There are few methods to hide the files and once hidden, it can be difficult to view by others.
Operating systems also come with sensitive hidden files by default to keep things simple, and you can’t access these files unless you unhide them. We might hide accidentally hide files and folders and want to see them on our devices. There can be many apps that will let you hide files and folders, but there are built-in OS file-hiding features of different platforms which many don’t know. Let us discuss hiding files and folders in popular platforms such as Windows and Mac.
All operating systems allow you to toggle whether hidden files are displayed or not, and toggling this option is relatively straight-forward. If you’re using Windows, a virus or other malware could be causing your hidden files to not display. Fixing it requires opening the Windows Registry, but should only take a couple of minutes.

How To View Hidden Files On A USB Or External Hard Drive In Mac:
In Mac OS, you have to take advantage of the Terminal application to reveal or view the hidden files or folders in the device. A Terminal is the native command-line tool that comes with all Mac computers. It enables you to change the permissions on files and folders.
1. Open Terminal found in Finder > Applications > Utilities
2. In Terminal, paste the following:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
3. Press return
4. Hold the ‘Option or Alt’ key, then right click on the Finder icon in the dock and click Relaunch.
5. Click your external hard drive under the Devices heading in the Finder to show all hidden files. To hide them again, follow the same steps but replace the Terminal command with:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles NO
It’s not the longest set of instructions or the biggest command to commit to memory but if you’re doing this a lot, it’s worth spending a few minutes now to save yourself a lot more time in the future.
